Love One Another - Youth Sunday School Lesson on John 13:31-35

Needed: (Optional: The Visual Bible)

Show the passage from The Visual Bible if you have it. If not, skip down to the reading.

Have your students take turns reading John 13:31-35.

What does Jesus mean when He tells us to love one another?

Is Jesus saying we should all feel emotionally mushy toward one another?

Love is sometimes emotional, but more than that, love is a decision; love is action. You can decide to love someone by being good to them even if you don’t feel emotional toward them. Showing love the way Jesus means is what you do and how you behave toward someone, not how you feel toward someone.

Jesus says people will know we are His disciples if we show this kind of love toward each other. How will showing this kind of love help people know we are Jesus’ followers?

When we are good to other people and show love toward them by what we do and how we behave, we are acting like Jesus. Jesus always put other people first and did good to them even if He didn’t really like them.

If we show that kind of love to each other, then people know we are Jesus’ disciples because we will be acting how He acted.

Take a moment to close your eyes and ask God how you can be more loving in your actions toward other people, and especially toward other Christians.
