Praying through the Bible with Lindsey - Psalm 1

Read the Bible passage, then see the following prayer to take inspiration on how you might pray through this psalm.

Psalm 1

(English Standard Version)

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

Blessed is the man
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.

Prayer for Psalm 1

Lord Jesus,

1-2) I’m reminded of You when I read this Psalm. You were blessed. You remained out of the way of sinners and scoffers. You delighted in the law of Your Father. I want to be like You! I want to be blessed. Show me the ways I’ve joined the sinners and scoffers. Lead me to repentance and change my heart. I want to be found thinking and talking about Your Word, Lord. Find me in my Father’s house. Help me to love Your Word so much that there is little room for anything less.

3-4) Your time on earth, Lord, showed us how committed You were to the Father. You were not swayed by temptations but persevered through truth. You remained solid when in many storms. I want that. Plant me by Your streams of truth that I may not fall into temptation. Make me solid so when times are turbulent, I will not be moved. I want to produce fruit. I want to produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control. I want people to see these fruits so they may be evidence of Your growth in me. I don’t want to be worthless. I don’t want to be blown around by popular trends, empty actions, or vain words. Keep me solid.

5-6) Count me in Your congregation. Keep me among the righteous, not the wicked, Lord. I am so grateful You walked this earth and see all. You know the challenges the righteous have. Thank You that we may know that challenge will end soon, and we will never have to perish with the wicked or struggle against their way forever.
