2 Chronicles 28:22-23 Scripture Meditation by Stephen Taylor

2 Chronicles 28:22-23

“In his time of trouble King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD. He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought, "Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me." But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.”

You can’t choose replacement over repentance! We see King Ahaz here trying to replace the Lord instead of admit he was wrong and cry out for help! He doesn’t entertain the idea that maybe he was wrong and sinned. No, it can’t be that; it has to be that there is something more powerful than God Almighty! How absurd is that! To think that someone could turn to idols in times of troubles to save them is ludicrous! Who would do such a thing!

Oh, wait – we do it now! There have been times when I have sought deliverance and victory in things other than the Lord and that, my friends, is no different than what this evil king did. Instead of facing my sin and confessing and repenting of it, I have made excuses or blamed those around me! We have to be honest, first with the Lord and then with ourselves! We can’t show people who Christ is if we aren’t living like Christ did!

And the only way we can even begin to do that is through the power of the Holy Spirit! The Spirit of Truth that will guide you into all Truth! Sometimes, the truth hurts, but it’s nowhere near as painful as the sting of death to an unsaved person!

Matthew 4:17: From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

The first thing Jesus preached was repentance. I think we should pay attention to that! True freedom is found in repentance!

I love you all. God bless. Glory, Honor, and Praise now and for all eternity to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
