Ezekiel 18 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Ezekiel 18:23

“'Do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked?’ declares the Sovereign LORD. “Rather am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?’”

Throughout the 18th chapter of Ezekiel, it talks about two kinds of people, the ones who turns from sin and live and the ones who turns from righteousness and die.

This has been a tough week for me, as I have failed in many different areas, but it’s not about whether I fail or not; it’s how I respond to it that matters! Am I going to just sit here and continue to sin or am I going to get up, dust myself off, and grab Jesus’ hand and try again? See, we are all going to fall, and God knows that, but it’s up to us how far we’re going to go before we turn from our sin and repent!

I can’t coast off yesterday’s accomplishments or think that I have “made it!” I have to pick up my cross daily and walk the walk and talk the talk.

It says, “If a wicked person turns to Me, they will live, but if a righteous person turns towards sin, they will die!” I have to keep that in mind and not grow complacent or lazy! When I sin, I have a choice to either run from God or run towards Him and His forgiveness!! I pray we all run towards Him today!!! I chose to turn back towards God; how about you??

I love you all, God bless, and all the Glory to God!

Ezekiel 18:30-32

“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!”

How beautiful is the heart of the Lord! He is speaking to a people much like us: full of rebellion, idolatry, and covered in sin, yet His heart is not to destroy them but to save them! He tells them and us to repent and turn away from sin, and then it won’t be our downfall—both in this life and the next.

Our sins separate us from God, and everyone sins, so, everyone is separated at one point, but we don’t have to stay that way. We have a choice to believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and surrender to His Lordship in our lives or to continue on in our own destruction. The stakes and consequences are eternal and are more than we can handle, so why do we dance around with the devil? Why do we keep one foot in the world and the other in the church house?

You know, the thing about turning is that you can’t turn two ways at once. You can’t go both left and right at the same time. You can’t go both up and down at the same time. And you can’t serve both God and the enemy at the same time. We have to make a choice who’s we’re gonna be: the God of all creation who is love and gave His Son to save sinners like me? Or the one who brought death and destruction in to try to destroy that creation? Who you serve in this life will determine who you spend your next one with!

Acts 4:11,12 – “Jesus is ’the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Ezekiel 18:23 – “Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?”

Matthew 7:21-23 – “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
