Luke 6 Devotional Thoughts by Stephen Taylor

Luke 6:12,13

One of those days, Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated apostles.

How do we prepare for a big day or a big decision? Do we spend the time beforehand with our Father, or with our worry? Leaning into His Eternal wisdom and understanding, or into our finite and limited information? Jesus wasn’t up on that mountain reading “Apostle” applications, doing aptitude tests, or running background checks but was up there spending time with His Father in prayer. He was not looking for a physical solution to a spiritual problem but rather went right to the source for strength and guidance.

If the one and only true Son of God did it this way, then how much more should the adopted children follow suit. We have to stop running to Google before God. We can’t rely on Facebook over the Father or Twitter over the Teacher! We have been given such an amazing gift in prayer: the ability to go to God whenever we want and know that He is there and He is listening.

Through Christ, we can literally go to God on any and all occasions with a humble confidence and boldness, knowing that He is there and that He cares. Those of us who belong to Christ don’t throw up a prayer and hope for an answer, but we send it up with a confident expectation of a response from the Creator of the universe! So today, let’s follow the King’s lead and go to our Father before we go anywhere else; we won’t be disappointed!

He is worthy! He is waiting! He is willing! But will we go?

Psalm 5:2,3- Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

God bless! I love you all, but His love paid the way for our freedom! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Luke 6:17

He went down with them and stood on a level place.

I was reading in Luke this morning, and right before Jesus starts teaching the Beatitudes, it says “He went down with them and stood on a level place....”. I was like, “Why is that important enough to mention?” Then the Holy Spirit laid it on me: Jesus wants us to know that He is approachable, that He will meet us right where we are, and even though He is our Savior, He doesn’t hold that over our heads or treat us less-than!! What other King do you know that would go to His subjects and do that?

When I think of a King, I think of someone who talks down to His people and treats them as lower than Himself!! But not Jesus. He is saying, “Let’s make this a level playing field and go to God together!!” That’s the heart of our King!!

If anyone in the history of the world had the right to consider Himself better than anyone else, it was Jesus. But He didn’t!! He wants us to know we can come to Him with anything at any time, and He will be right there to greet us with open arms!!

If Jesus didn’t consider Himself better than anyone, else then neither should I!! The last time I checked, the ground was even at the foot of the cross. We have all fallen short, and luckily for us, His blood is enough to cover us all!!! Thank You, Jesus!!!!

I love you all, God bless, and Glory to God!!!!!!!!

Luke 6:40

The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

Burdens are meant to be shared, crosses are meant to be carried, and love is how they will know that we are His! Jesus is the Teacher, and we are the students. Everything He did, we should also do. It’s easy for me to get caught up in “I can’t,” instead of “He can.” The truth is I can’t do a lot of things. I can’t love the way He loves, I can’t forgive the way He forgives, I can’t even serve the way He serves, but what I can do is fully surrender my life to Him and allow the Holy Spirit to use me and to lead me down the path to be more like our Teacher.

Too often, I put unrealistic expectations on myself, and when I do, I fail. I bring shame and condemnation on myself, and the Lord is saying, “I never called you to do this on your own or do anything I wouldn’t do Myself. Rest in Me and allow Me to lead you down this path!” If Jesus wants us to accomplish something, He will make the way!!!

I encourage you today to rest in the fact that He came, He conquered, He rose, and He is alive and well in the heart of each believer and on His throne in Heaven, and He is coming again! It’s not our job to do things for Christ, but rather let’s do them with Him!!! It’s not our job to be the Teacher but to be trained by Him and for His glory!!!! We are all students of someone, so it’s up to us to choose the correct Teacher!!! Let’s learn from the only King who traded His life for ours!!!

Be trained, Be bold, Be humble, and most importantly, be found in Christ!

I love you all, God bless, and Glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!
