1 Chronicles 11 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Chronicles 11:4,5

David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites who lived there said to David, "You will not get in here." Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.

Man can say whatever he wants, but it is God's will that prevails! The Jebusites felt secure; they thought their walls were too high to scale and their defenses too strong to crumble, which by man's standards may have been true. But we're not dealing with mere human strength or military might but with the Limitless One and all that He is.

If David had listened to these people, he might not have attacked, and by not attacking, he would have dishonored God and missed out on a blessing the LORD had for him. Have we ever done this? Have we been called to step out onto the battlefield with faith, not fear, remembering and relying on Him for the victory, not listening to the taunts of the enemy but the promises of our God? How did we do? To be honest, I have failed at times, letting the taunts of my enemy deter me from even trying, and that my friends, is not what our gracious and powerful God has for us!

He has for us victory over our enemy; He has for us success through Him and for His glory; He has for us a life that is never-ending and never compromising. He has for us everything we could ever need and so much more. So, the question then becomes, will we listen to the enemy and refuse to receive what the LORD has for us, or will we remember just Who He is and march out onto the battlefield in confidence, knowing our victory is in Him?

He wants to tear down every stronghold of the enemy in our hearts, minds, lives, and families. Will we answer the call to arms or allow our enemy to keep what the LORD has for us? It's the LORD's power that brings the victory, but it's up to us to walk in it today! If we're not walking toward God, then we're walking away from Him. Which way are we moving today?

1 Chronicles 11:7-9- David then took up residence in the fortress, and so it was called the City of David. He built up the city around it, from the terraces to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city. And David became more and more powerful, because the LORD Almighty was with him.

God bless! I love you all, but His love demolishes strongholds in our lives! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

1 Chronicles 11:16-17

At that time, David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate Bethlehem.”

David longed for a drink of water from a well in Bethlehem, but do we? Jesus is our well of Living Water that sprung up in Bethlehem, but do we long for Him as much as David longed for that drink? Do we desire that drink above everything?

David was at war. He could have longed for a lot of things: his wives, his bed, his palace, maybe even peace, but it says he longed for a drink from the well near the gate of Bethlehem, and as I was reading that this morning, the Holy Spirit said something like, “That well of water is a representation of Christ (our well of Living Water), and how David longed to drink of it, we should desire Christ!”

Don’t forget that this well was in enemy territory, and that is exactly where we are every day. This world is not our home. This world doesn’t like our King or His people. But the Well is still good, the Water still pure, and the blessings are endless! Desire this Living Water above all and let it refresh you in ways you never knew possible!

Every day, we have a choice of whose voice we’re going to listen to and what we are going to chase. Do we chase the Lord with reckless abandon and complete devotion, or are we running after Him half-heartedly and weighed down by this world? Trust me. I know that things come up and attacks happen, but we don’t have to stay there. We can overcome, and it’s not because of us but only because of Him! Our victory isn’t in our strength, our power, our money, or our talents but in complete surrender to Jesus Christ! Take your stand in Him and watch the King of kings deliver you from your enemies!

1 Chronicles 11:14 - But they took their stand in the middle of the field. They defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
