1 Corinthians 6 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Corinthians 6:12

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though, “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.

Yesterday, I was listening to a sermon, and this verse smacked me right in the face. God laid something on my heart I couldn’t get away from. See, I always thought that, “becoming a slave” always meant sin, and then I realized I’m a slave to exercising and working out. And although exercising isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, it is when it takes as much precedent in your life as reading your Bible or prayer.

See, there are a few I do every day: I read my Bible, pray, do a devotion, worship or listen to worship music, and work out! These things are every day, no questions asked, and yesterday, God laid on my heart that one of these is not like the others. The only thing that should have to be done every day is spending time with Him. Everything else is a want, not a need. The only thing that should rule me and my life is my Risen Savior and King!!!

Slaves have masters, and Jesus was super clear that you can only serve one, and I don’t want to serve anything but God Almighty!!! I heard something like this yesterday: as I grow and mature in the Lord, I have to go from just judging sin from not a sin and start looking at what is edifying, glorifying, and satisfying to the Lord!!! I encourage you to do the same and see what’s mastering you. The answer might surprise you!!! But don’t lose heart, because Jesus came to set the captives free, and He is the best in the business!!!

Be Courageous, Be vulnerable, Be honest, and more than anything, Be more like Jesus Christ!!! I love you all, God bless, and glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

There is so much freedom found in these verses!!! I have been owned by a lot of things in this world: sex, drugs, pride, money, fear, shame, worry, and selfishness! Because they owned me, I was their slave, and the chains and burdens were heavier than I could handle. But today, I’m owned by Jesus Christ, the only One who buys something to set it free, and not just free by the world's standards but free by His standards, and let me tell you, that is free indeed!

This world wants to enslave you so it can own and dominate your life and use it for its own evil desires, but Christ desires you to walk in humble obedience and freedom in Him! This freedom He offers will bring glory to His name and people to His throne by setting the captives free, bringing the dead back to life, and redeeming what the world claimed was impossible, you and I! And if that’s not enough, then after He sets you free, you will receive the Holy Spirit in you! The Spirit of God resting in you! If that doesn’t blow your mind, then read it again – LOL!

The Holy Spirit brings revelation, wisdom, truth, discernment, comfort, and counsel in every season of our lives! And if that’s not enough, we experience God’s love through the Holy Spirit poured into us! Repent! Surrender! Be set free!

Romans 5:5 - And hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forevermore to God Almighty, His Son Jesus Christ, and our down deposit the Holy Spirit!

1 Corinthians 6:20

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

I love this verse for so many reasons, and it is quickly becoming an anchor verse for me. You can tell the worth of something by the amount the person buying it is willing to pay. And God was willing to pay with His Son’s life for ours, so to me, that says we are very valuable to Him.

I have struggled throughout my life with acceptance/rejection issues, and this verse reminds me that the way I see me and the way God sees me can be polar opposites. Where I see a prideful, selfish, sinful man bent on doing things his own way, God sees a lost sheep and is willing to send His Son to take my place and restore me to Him!

I was praying this morning, and I saw me and Jesus standing next to each other, and I felt like God was saying one of us had to go pay the price for my sins. As I went to leave, Jesus stopped me and went instead! Thank you, Jesus!!!!

Remember that Jesus went obediently, willingly, lovingly, and humbly to the cross for you and me!!! The world will tell you you’re not worthy, but God said you were worthy of the royal  Blood of His Son, and it’s not because of who you are or what you can do for Him, but it’s all about who He is and His love for you!!! Don’t let this fallen world define you, but rather be defined by the Risen King !!!

Be a warrior, Be accountable, Be honest, Be fully surrendered, and Be more like Jesus!!!

I love you all, God bless, and let’s give glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!
