Exodus 3:4 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Exodus 3:4

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, “Here I am."

Moses had a choice. He could go check out the bush or just keep on doing what he was doing. I’m sure he was a busy man. He was a shepherd, a father, a son-in-law, an outlaw, and a husband. I’m sure the last thing he had time for was to go look at some strange brush fire. I’m also sure he was tired. He went from the palace to a man on the run. Let me tell you, as someone who has been wanted by the law, you live in constant worry and dread.

What stuck out to me today is that God didn’t call out to him until Moses took the time to go check it out. God didn’t say, “Hey, Moses, come check this out” but rather waited to see how Moses would respond and then called him by name.

The questions I had to ask God and myself today in prayer are: Am I too busy with my own life to stop and check out the burning bushes God places in front of me? Am I too busy doing what Stephen thinks is important that I miss the miraculous sign God has placed right in front of me? Are we too busy and consumed with our world that we are missing God moving in our midst? How many burning bushes have I walked past looking for a sign from God or direction on where to go? Moses had a choice and, so do we. We can either slow down and make time for the Lord or walk right past our own burning bush.

Be intentional, be open, be willing, and let’s give the Lord some praise today!!!!

I love you all, God bless, and Glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!
