Exodus 7:22-23 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Exodus 7:22-23

But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said. Instead, he turned and went into his palace and did not take even this to heart.

What we turn to matters! These verses come right after God, through Moses, turned the Egyptians water into blood! I’m sure at this point, Pharaoh is confused, angry, upset, worried, scared, and lost. Instead of turning toward God to handle and heal these emotions and problems, Pharaoh turns and goes into his palace. Pharaoh's palace here represents his power, his stature, his wealth, and everything that is in the flesh and not of the Spirit! Pharaoh turns away from God and toward his own security, which is no security at all!

How often do we do this? Something unexpected happens in our lives, and God tries to get our attention with it and get us to turn to Him for help, but we turn to our own means for deliverance. We, like Pharaoh, have a choice each day what we will turn to, the Creator or the created things, the One who holds the world in His hands or the one who is trying to hold the world hostage, the One who gave His Son for you and I or the one who tried to destroy Him on the Cross!

Bad things happen to good people, but that doesn’t change who our God is! Mercifully, the opposite is true also. Good things happen to bad people, and I’m living proof of that! I was a bad person who received healing, salvation, and reconciliation through Jesus Christ and His love for us! We will either be filled with the Spirit or bound by our flesh! There are going to be situations and circumstances in your life that aren’t going to be pleasant or easy, and you will be faced with a choice: turn to God and find freedom, healing, and hope, or turn to your flesh and the things of this world and be disappointed, depressed, and doomed!

Galatians 5:17 - For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever you want.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ the Risen King, and the Holy Spirit!
