Job 29:11-17 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Job 29:11-17

Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me because I rescued the poor who cried for help and the fatherless who had none to assist him. The man who was dying blessed me; I made the widow's heart sing. I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth.

Job doesn’t just talk about his faith but lives it out in his day-to-day dealings with those around him! Here lately, the Lord has laid on my heart the importance of serving those around us. Trust me, I often fail at this, but it’s something I’m praying to grow in! We can’t just be people who speak of Him but need to be people that serve and love like Him.

One of the things I have learned about serving others is that you can’t serve them and yourself at the same time. It’s one of the ways to crucify your flesh and live more like Christ. By putting others before ourselves, we embody who Christ is in our lives. He calls us to serve as He served, and I believe one of the reasons why is because we live in a physical world, and people need to see tangle evidence of Him moving in it in order to help them believe. People who don’t know the Lord probably aren’t going to sit down and read their Bibles daily, but if you're over there serving them and helping them, I bet they will listen to what you have to say. It’s not up to you to make them believe but just share the hope and freedom you have found in Christ!

Ask the Lord to show you who you can serve and share Him with today! The answer might surprise you!

James 1:22 - But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

Matthew 20:26-28 - Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Galatians 5:13 - You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ the servant King, and the Holy Spirit who leads us daily!
