Job 8:4 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Job 8:4

When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.

Job 10:14 - If I sinned, you would be watching me and would not let my offense go unpunished.

As believers, we have to stop playing, “My sin’s not as bad as your sin,” or, “Your sin’s worse than mine.” As I was reading this morning, the Holy Spirit brought to mind that we don’t truly understand what the penalty for our sin is. Let me explain. We get that dying without Christ will bring judgment and eternal separation from God, but we don’t truly know what that is because we have never experienced it. We don’t know what it will be like to not have that hope in our hearts or minds.

We can’t grasp the gravity of that situation, but God can, and He does. He knows how horrific it will be. That's why He sent Jesus. He knew that it will be the most unbearable consequence ever for something that can be avoided. If it wasn’t that bad, then why send His only begotten Son? If it really didn’t matter, why allow His Son to take on the weight of the world's sins and carry His cross for each of us?

God watched His Son endure more than anyone before Him or after Him, and I’m sure it was hard for Him to watch, but He did it because we have no hope without Him. We are absolutely doomed without Christ. God knew this, Christ knew this, the Holy Spirit knew this, and They were willing to pay it all and finish the race. Our ticket has already been bought, but if we don’t go to the altar and collect it, then it’s not His fault that we don’t get in.

I can’t compare my sin to your sin but rather have to compare my life to Christ, and trust me, I fall way short every time. But the freeing thing about that is that He knew we would fall short every time, and He came to bridge that gap. I encourage us today to make the written Word of God and the Living Word of God the standard by which we try to live! Don’t worry; we’re all gonna fail, but we don’t have to die in failure, because we live in Christ!

Ephesians 2:4-5 - But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ the Lamb of God, and the Holy Spirit who fills our hearts with His love!
