Psalm 115:4-13 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 115:4-8

But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses but cannot smell. They have hands but cannot feel feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

As I was reading this, the Lord showed me that these idols are described as useless, helpless, lifeless, and worthless, and everyone who puts their trust in them will be the same! This verse tells us that we will take on the characteristics of what we serve. So, If we serve things that are dead, we too will become dead, but if we serve the Living God of all creation, we too will be alive! Then the next three verses tell us where to put our trust and why:

Psalm 115:9-11 - All you Israelites, trust in the LORD— He is their help and shield. House of Aaron, trust in the LORD— He is their help and shield. You who fear him, trust in the LORD— He is their help and shield.

What we put our trust into matters. In times of trouble and hardship, you will turn and run to what you trust in. If it’s dope, you will run to dope. If it’s sex, you will run to sex. If it’s yourself, then you will turn to yourself, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t save myself a dollar with a coupon, let alone save myself! He is our help. He is our shield. He is the only One who can and will save us from not only this world but from ourselves and His wrath! Turn to the LORD today and let Him be your strong tower of peace and the wall of deliverance that surrounds you! Thank You, Lord!

Psalm 115:12-13 - The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless his people Israel, He will bless the house of Aaron, He will bless those who fear the LORD— small and great alike.

God bless! I love you all, but trust me, He loves you so much more! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
