Psalm 144:3-4 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 144:3-4

LORD, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.

If my life is but a breath, then I want that breath to speak of Jesus! I think of all the breath I’ve wasted throughout the years, arguing over trivial matters, lying to those I love, singing songs to please my flesh and not the Spirit. Though those breaths were wasted to my eye, they weren’t to God’s. I’m so grateful and thankful that He uses even the worst of our decisions to lead us back to Himself. To draw us out of darkness into His light and turn our breaths from wasted into worship!

How awesome it is that He has given us the ability to speak His truths and sing His praises! Who are we that we can even speak the name of the Lord God Almighty, let alone call Him our Savior, Rock, Redeemer, and Friend! How often I have taken for granted each breath and used it to serve myself and not the Savior.

Jesus talks about how important our words are and how they may come out of the mouth, but they originate in the heart (Matthew 12:34). The words are just the smoke to the fire down within! So, what does our mouth say our hearts are full of? Praises and reverence for the Lord, or greed and malice toward our brothers and sisters?

If you knew the number of breaths you had left, would it change how you spent them? Lord, create in us a pure heart and let the fruit of that be evident in the words we speak! Help us, Lord, to use every breath we have left to share Your Gospel, speak Your truths, and sing Your praises!

Matthew 12:36-37 - But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words, you will be acquitted, and by your words, you will be condemned.”

Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit who leads us in His love!
