Psalm 9:13-14 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 9:13-14

LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death, that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and there rejoice in your salvation.

I see the Gospel in the tale of these two gates! I see the gates of death as our wages for our sins, and the fact is nothing but the Lord’s mercy and grace can save us! If He doesn’t lift David up from here, then David will never leave there, and that’s the same for us! We are completely helpless to save ourselves, and only the righteous blood of Jesus can set us free and take us from one gate to another! And what do we do once He takes us from death to life? Praise Him and rejoice in our salvation! Share it with those around us and telling them all about the Living God who set us free!

Last night during Bible study, we were talking about the thieves on the crosses next to Jesus, and the Lord pressed something into me. There are two kinds of people in this world. There is the thief on His left who mocked and ridiculed Him, and the one on His right who accepted and turned to Him. But the thing the Lord showed me last night and this morning is that they had a few things in common. They were both dying physically, they both had the same encounter with Jesus, and they both had a choice to make – to believe and receive or reject and be lost.

We are either one thief or the other. Which one are you? There is not a third thief. There is not a third option. We’re all dying physically, we’re all given the same Jesus to come to, and we all have a choice to make. Faith in Christ equals freedom from sin, death, and shame. Rejection of Christ equals a rejection of freedom, life, and hope. The tale of two gates, but which one will you enter?

Matthew 7:13-14 – “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate, and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our crucified and resurrected King, and the Holy Spirit who leads us loving through this life into the next!
