Hebrews 6:7-8 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Hebrews 6:7-8

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end, it will be burned.

What are you producing each day? Crops that are pleasing and useful, or painful and worthless thorns and thistles? As I was reading this morning, the Holy Spirit revealed a couple of things to me. 1) that the rain, which is water that comes from the heavens and gives life, is a picture of Jesus, the true Water from Heaven that gives eternal life!

2) the fields are two types of believers, one being the Church and the other just being in the church, and let me tell you, there is a difference.

3) we produce from what, or better yet, Who is in our hearts, and what we produce can determine our reward! I don’t believe it’s the works that get us in or determine where we will spend eternity, but the works are the fruit of where our heart is at and Who it truly belongs to!

As I was praying this morning, I was reminded of the disciples, 12 very different men in so many ways, but they all had one thing in common. They all spent years following Jesus on this earth, yet only 11 of them truly believed and received Him! Jesus chose the 12, but only 11 of them chose Him, and you can tell that by what they produced! From the outside looking in, you would have thought that Judas had made it, that he had arrived! That he was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, but the truth is he wasn’t even as close as the Pharisees to the Lord! He looked the part, he played the part, but when the rubber hit the road, he fell apart and traded the Son of the Living God for some change!

I think one of Judas' biggest downfalls is that he never truly surrendered and accepted Jesus as the Son of God and His Savior. If someone who walked that closely with Jesus can miss it, then so can we! So be on guard and lean into the Lord daily and check to see what’s growing in your field! If it’s not from the Lord, ask Him to uproot and replant it with crops that are pleasing to Him!

Matthew 7:16-17 – “By their fruit, you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to God Almighty, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit!
