Friendship With God Youth Sunday School Lesson

Who can be God's friend?

Ø  Exodus 33:11: "The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend."

This verse tells us that Moses was friends with God.  The great thing about being a Christian is that since Jesus died for our sins, we can all be a friend of God.  The huge, awesome, Creator and Ruler of the entire universe is inviting you to be His friend.

Will you accept His offer of friendship? ______________________________________________

God showed His friendship toward Moses by talking to him.  It's important to talk to your friends, isn't it?  That's how you get to know them and how you keep the friendship going.

Just like Moses, I can be God's friend and talk to Him by praying and listening for what He wants to say to me.

Talk to God just like you talk to your best friend and be ready to listen for God talking back.  He can talk to you in your heart, through the Bible, through your situation, or through other people.

How can I be God's friend?

Ø  John 15:12-17: "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 17This is my command: Love each other."

Who does Jesus say are His friends in this passage?  1) Those for whom He died, 2) those who obey His commands, and 3) those who join God in His work in the world.

How you can join God in His work in the world? _______________________________________

When we have experienced God's love through Jesus, how we should we act toward one another?  In love.
