Praying through the Bible with Lindsey - Psalm 2

Read the Bible passage, then see the following prayer to take inspiration on how you might pray through this psalm.

Psalm 2

(English Standard Version)

The Reign of the Lord's Anointed

Why do the nations rage
    and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
    and the rulers take counsel together,
    against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
    and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs;
    the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
    and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King
    on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
    and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”

10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
    be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear,
    and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
    lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
    for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Prayer for Psalm 2

Lord God,

1-3) Our people, our nation, is in turmoil and constantly seeking solutions that will never help us. Our elected officials seem to come into agreement about one thing and one thing only: to rid You from our nation. They don’t want Your advice. They are so far from Your will. But I’m sure You’re not worried by this.

4-6) I am worried about it, though, and am sometimes consumed with anxiety from it. Remind me, Lord, of Your promises. Remind me that You wrote those promises, and they will conquer and outlast any government seeking to cut You out of their nation. You sent Your Son to die on that holy hill. You’ve won this battle already. Man’s sinful desires will be defeated.

7-9) I must remember that because of that holy hill, I’ve been adopted. I have a secure place in Your kingdom. Help me to use Your Word to defeat evil around me. I know Your ways of love, truth, and mercy will be the downfall of my enemies.

10-11) I just wish that I could be heard before our leaders. I wish I could warn them to serve You! And only You! I wish they could see and understand what fearing You actually looks like. I long to turn on the news and see the nations rejoicing because of Your great works! Don’t they know Your wrath?! Don’t they know they’ll die?! Give me strength to tell those around me about You so that I may be fruitful for Your kingdom, even if my message never reaches to those in power.

12) I pray, Lord, as the only thing of power I can do.-I pray our nation’s leaders submit to You one day. I pray they come to adore and greet Your law as their own. Thank You for blessing those of us who do take refuge in You. Thank You for being a safe place in a world always full of turmoil.
