Praying through the Bible with Lindsey - Psalm 3

Read the Bible passage, then see the following prayer to take inspiration on how you might pray through this psalm.

Psalm 3

(English Standard Version)

Save Me, O My God

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

3 O Lord, how many are my foes!
    Many are rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
    “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
    my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
    and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah

I lay down and slept;
    I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
    who have set themselves against me all around.

Arise, O Lord!
    Save me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
    you break the teeth of the wicked.

Salvation belongs to the Lord;
    your blessing be on your people! Selah

Prayer for Psalm 3

Lord,

1-2) I’ve  many fears over things that threaten my physical being. The threats keep coming. I also have many anxieties that stem from internal thoughts. They tell me You can’t save me; they tell me I no longer have value in Your kingdom.

3-4)  But You, Lord, You protect me. You protect my soul when threats arise. It doesn’t matter what my thoughts say because You are my significance and confidence. I cry to You, Lord, and You remind me of Your grace. You remind me of Your sacrifice on that holy hill.  I’m forgiven, I’m loved,  I’m Yours.

5-6)  Because You remind me of that, I can have peace enough to rest. Remind me that I  will wake up again because You sustain me. I will not be afraid of what  threatens my body when it seems to fail me. I will not be afraid of those who mean to cause me harm. Your love and commitment to me is stronger than death.

7)  Arise Lord! Save me! I’m nervous again. Take away my enemies violently the way I think they deserve. Let me be honest with You, Lord. Allow my emotions to be raw and give my dark desires to You so I don’t do the wrong thing; only You have the right of justice.  I give You my enemies because I know they cannot stand in Your presence.

8) Thank You for saving me over and over. You are the only One who can. Thank You for Your blessings.
