Pastoral Leadership and Church Growth Course

This is an elective course for International Online Bible College, but anyone may use this material free of charge. 


Scope of the Course: In this course, you will gain the knowledge you need to lead a church as a head pastor or church planter.

Grading: Your grade will be based on the written assignments below and your completion of the Use Your Gifts final project.

 

To complete the course...

1. Watch the following videos. While they do focus on leading a House Church, we'll be applying them in the traditional church setting as well. Assignment: Leave a 100-word comment on what stands out to you in each video (100 points each). There are also separate written assignments following the videos.


Assignment: Discuss the problem of consumerism in the Church. How can you combat consumerism in your setting? (250-word minimum, 250 points)


Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for raising up and mentoring new leaders in your church. (150 points)

 

Assignment: Discuss the qualifications for a church leader. If someone qualifies as a leader but doesn't have certain gifts or talents, how can you work with them as a leader? (250-word minimum, 250 points)

 

Assignment: Reflect on what elements in your current or former church were commands vs. traditions. Draft a plan for distinguishing between the two in your ministry. (250-word minimum, 250 points)

 

Assignment: As a church leader, how will you keep your focus on loving God rather than growing your church? (250-word minimum, 250 points)


Assignment: Discuss how you can keep the ministry you lead focused on Christ and the Body rather than on you. (150-word minimum, 150 points)

 

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for building genuine Christian community in your church. (150 points)


Assignment: Describe your geographic, demographic, economic and cultural setting and discuss the pros and cons of meeting in homes, a church building, or a public space for your setting. (250-word minimum, 250 points)

 

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for discipleship and accountability in your ministry. (150 points)

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for reaching out to your local neighborhood. (150 points)


Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for discipling children and involving them in your church. (150 points)

 

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for when and how to administer Communion and ensure it is performed reverently. (150 points)

 

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for whom and when to baptize. (150 points)


Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan discussing the most effective way to teach Scripture in your setting. (150 points)


Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for leading worship in your church. (150 points)

 

Assignment: Draft a 150-word minimum plan for encouraging others in the church to use their spiritual gifts. (150 points)

 

Assignment: Discuss the biblical guidance on men's and women's roles within the Church. Draft a plan for appropriately involving men and women in your ministry. (350-word minimum, 350 points) 

 

2. Use Your Gifts (2400 points) 

Choose one topic from this course for your final project. It may be writing a Bible study, recording yourself preaching a sermon, writing a worship song, creating a work of art, writing a research paper on a topic of interest, gathering a list of Bible verses on a certain theme, gathering a list of quotes on a theme, etc. – anything that shows you have engaged with and understood the subject.

Bible Helps may publish your writing assignments and final project as an example to other students and for the edification of our readers. You will be credited as the writer/creator, etc.
