Philippians 4:6-7 Scripture Meditation by Stephen Taylor

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I used to take pride in my calloused hands and calloused heart. I used to think, “These are man hands, and they show how hard I work and how strong I am. See this heart? No one can hurt it or penetrate it!!! I am tough, I am strong, I am a man!!!” Then I met Jesus and realized that I was broken, scared, weak, and in desperate need of a Savior! Jesus’ heart was full of forgiveness, not calloused with hate or pride. His hands healed nations by serving and sacrifice. I was not like Jesus. I was scared of my own shadow, and those callouses didn’t make me any more of a man than standing in a garage made me a car.

But God showed me that real men do have callouses; they are on their knees, not on their hearts. I pray every day, all throughout the day, but at least once a day, I make sure and do it from my knees. I make sure I fall at the feet of Jesus at least once a day, if nothing more than to say thank You, I love You, help me, guide me, or here is my life and my will; they are Yours!!! I don’t think it’s so much about the words I say, but rather the reverence and submission of my heart and my body.

I can honestly tell you the callouses on my knees have brought me more strength than the ones on my hands from the gym. That the callouses on my knees have protected and filled my heart with more love than the callouses that used to guard and surround my heart. Real men do have callouses; they just aren’t always where you would expect them to be!!! So, I have to ask, where are your callouses today???

Be encouraged and be encouraging!!! I love you all, God bless, and glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!
