1 Samuel 7:4 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

1 Samuel 7:4

So, the Israelites put away their Baals and Ashtoreths and served the LORD only.

As I was reading today, the Holy Spirit had the phrase “put away” stick out to me! When I think of putting things away, I think of them being brought out again. I put away laundry or dishes or Christmas decorations because I plan on getting them out again, and I can’t help but think the Israelites were doing the same thing here. When we are dealing with idols in our lives, it’s not good enough to just put them away. We have to destroy them completely and turn to the Lord wholeheartedly! Why? Because if we leave the enemy even the tiniest sliver, he will slide back in and bring death and destruction to our lives!

Think about how long the Israelites battled against these idols! They fought for years to banish them and never fully could, and I believe it’s because they weren’t fully surrendering to the Lord and destroying those things that were controlling them. The Bible is very clear that being double-minded or serving two masters is a recipe for destruction, confusion, pain, anguish, and torment. So, why do we do this? I believe it’s because even though we’re miserable, it’s comfortable, and we’re scared to step out on faith and trust the Lord with our whole hearts.

So, my question and challenge today is: what have you “put away” that needs to be destroyed, and will you ask the Lord to help you with it? Jesus came to set the captives free, but if the captives won’t come out of the jail cell, He won’t make them!

Refine, reconcile, and refocus Your Bride, King Jesus!!!! Purify our hearts and minds with your Truth and Love!!!!

I love you all, God bless, and Glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!!
