2 Chronicles 14:11 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

2 Chronicles 14:11

Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, LORD, our God, for we rely on you, and in your name, we have come against this vast army. LORD, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”

What a statement, what a prayer, what truth! This was said by a king who had an army over 500,000 strong, and yet he refers to himself as powerless! I see this as humbling yourself before the Lord! King Asa knew that numbers didn’t mean victory but that victory rested with the Lord. How easy it would have been for him to trust in his army, his wealth, or his own power to get the job done, but we all know how that might have ended. But instead, he cries out to the only One who could save him.

How are we handling the battles before us? Are we looking at them through our physical eyes or our spiritual ones? Do we say, “I’ll figure it out” or, “I’m taking it to the Lord”? How we respond and the heart behind it matters. We can easily do the right thing for the wrong reasons, and vice versa, we can do the wrong thing for the right reasons.

The truth is we don’t always know what is the right way. But thankfully and mercifully, we know the One who does! He gave us His Word and His Spirit to guide us in this life and take us into the Promised Land. We don’t have to guess and try to scheme our way to victory but humble ourselves before the Lord and let Him lift us up! It’s so easy to trust in the fleeting things of this world, but in the end, they will all fade away, but if we put our trust in the eternal Living God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit, then we will never be put to shame, rejected, or forsaken.

2 Chronicles 15:2 - He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.”

2 Chronicles 15:7 – “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
