Deuteronomy 12:23 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Deuteronomy 12:23

But be sure you do not eat the blood because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat.

“The blood is the life.” When I read this, I instantly thought of Jesus and how His blood is the only way to eternal life. Jesus calls himself “the life” in John 14:6. There is so much power in the Blood of Christ, blood not taken from Him but surrendered by Him for us! They couldn’t take one drop from my King unless He allowed them to. He had a choice: Him or us, and in case you don’t know, He chose us. He chose us not because of anything we have done but simply because of Who He is and how great His love is.

The power, the respect, the healing, and hope in the statement, “blood is the life,” blew me away today. So often, I get caught up in the things of this world, things that don’t matter, things that take peace instead of give it, things that quite frankly distract me from the real reason I am here on this earth. That reason is to worship the Lord, serve and surrender to Him fully, and share the Gospel – summed up, love God and love people.

I was thinking about the centurion at the crucifixion of Jesus and how bloody that scene would have been. That centurion would, no doubt, have been covered by the blood of Jesus, and I believe that’s why when the Lord gave up His Spirit, the centurion's eyes were opened. See, you can’t come in contact with the Blood of the Lamb and stay the same. It’s impossible. The Blood of Jesus has covered and conquered every sin from the first one to the last. I promise you, if you haven’t experienced this life-giving, hope-filling, peace-sustaining blood, then get on your knees and ask God to cover you with it and forgive you for your sins! It is hands-down, no questions asked, the best choice I have ever made and one I will share every chance I get!

Be covered by the Blood of the only King who traded His life for yours, His throne for a manger, and doesn’t ask for more than your heart and your sins! God bless, and I love you all!!

Praise Glory and Honor to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!!!
