Exodus 20:18-20 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Exodus 20:18-20

When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself, and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us, or we will die." Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."

Proper fear of the Lord will not drive you away from Him but away from your sin! Misplaced fear drove the Israelites away from the Lord instead of away from their sins. They had the opportunity to hear from the Lord directly, but they let fear overtake them and gave up that blessing. I don’t know if they even truly realized what they were missing out on! Imagine being able to have a close personal relationship with God and trading it for a second-hand knowledge of the Lord! Oh wait, we still do this today.

Because of Jesus Christ, we all have the right to approach the throne of Grace ourselves and have one-on-one time with our Father in Heaven, but do we take this opportunity, or do we take it for granted? Everyone wants new or personal things in this life. We want a new car, not a used one, a new house, not a used one, new clothes, not hand-me-downs. So, why is our relationship with the Lord any different? We should be desiring our own personal relationship with the Lord, not someone else’s leftovers!

He desires that close intimate relationship with us so much that He gave His only Son to make a way for reconciliation and redemption! Truth be told, He doesn’t need us, but we 100% need Him! He wanted us, so He paid for us, and it blows my mind to think that the relationship I have with Him is personal just to me! The Lord and I have a personal relationship that is specific and intricate to Him, and He and I want the same for you! God created you, He knows you better than you know yourself, and He knows how to love and relate to you on the deepest levels. The question is, will you let Him in, and or will you keep Him at a distance? God knows how to relate to you better than you know how to relate to Him, so let Him lead you down this path and personally enjoy His Presence from this day forth!

Jeremiah 1:5 - “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to Papa God, King Jesus, and the Holy Spirit who leads us into all Truth!
