Jeremiah 8 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Jeremiah 8:11

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious., “Peace, peace," they say, when there is no peace.

As I was reading today, the Lord brought this verse to my attention. So often in my life, I wouldn’t call things what they were. I wouldn’t call sin “sin.” I would make excuses or say that was just how I was. But do you see the danger in that? If I say, “Oh well; that’s how I am,” then there is no hope. I’m stuck like that. But if I call sin a sin, then there is hope, and His name is Jesus!!!

See, Jesus came to save me from my sins, but if I never admit that I have any sins I need saving from, then I might never admit I need Jesus, and that my friends, is a very scary thought! If I continue to make excuses for my sins or even deny that they are sins, then I never seek out the proper healing for them! The healing blood of Jesus poured out for this world is the ONLY thing that can save and heal us!!! If we never admit it, then we will never accept Him, and trust me, no one wants to get to the end of the road alone.

We have to call things what they are, no matter how much it might hurt. We have to call good things good, bad things bad, and then call on the name of Jesus!!! The world called my addiction a disease, but the Bible clearly calls it idolatry, and here is the main difference in those diagnoses: the world can heal a disease, but only Jesus can heal an idolatrous heart! If we aren’t diagnosing things properly, then we will never seek out the proper treatment, and the treatment isn’t a what but a Who!!! He is Jesus!!!

Be encouraging, Be bold, Be loving, Be like Jesus!!! I love you all, God bless, and glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!!

Jeremiah 8:11

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace.

If we are honest with ourselves, all of us have done this at one time or another. We have tried to comfort or encourage someone who is going through something but have done it in a flawed and human way. We often try to do things to our standards instead of God’s, and when we do, it doesn’t end well. Our best intentions often fall on the wrong side of right.

You see, the people were proclaiming peace when they should have been proclaiming repentance. God’s people had turned from Him to idols and brought about this time of punishment and exile. But God’s heart is for repentance, mercy, and grace; that’s why He offers it before wrath, judgement, and exile. The people entrusted to speak the truth had failed to call sin sin and thus helped lead the people astray.

Are we doing this today? This doesn’t mean we walk around condemning the lost and burying them in shame and guilt, but we don’t say it’s okay to live like that either. We must find that balanced life that God calls us to live. Never sacrificing truth for love or love for truth but walking that perfectly balanced path that Christ has made. We will fall to one side or the other at times, but let us not stay there but return ourselves to the path of righteousness through humble repentance and help lead those around us to the same way! He is the Way! The only Way. Will we honor Him in all we do today?

John 14:6,7- Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love is the Way. Praise, glory, and honor now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
