Mark 12 Devotional Thoughts by Stephen Taylor

Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth;, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Are you putting everything you have into the Lord’s hands or just what you can afford to lose? I love this story for many reasons, but the main one is this woman’s heart. Not only did she give all her money, but I’m sure she had to humble herself to even go and give what little she had. So, to me, it wasn’t just her money she threw in there but also her pride and fear.

Are we a people who will do anything to honor and trust in Jesus, or do we just give what we can spare? Are we holding onto part of our lives or giving it all to Him? These are questions I need to ponder and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to me, and I encourage you to do the same!!! God bless my brothers and sisters in Christ!!!!

I love you all, God bless, and glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!

Mark 12:41-42

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

This is one of my favorite stories in the Gospels: the woman who puts her 2 copper coins in the offering! Her faith is amazing, but today, what grabbed me was how much ridicule and judgement she would have had to endure just to make an offering to God!! She was a poor widow, so I imagine she wasn’t dressed very nicely, probably didn’t smell the greatest, and was a social outcast in her society, but that didn’t stop her! She probably knew her offering was a joke to the others, but she also knew it wasn’t a joke to God!! They probably yelled at her, made fun of her, told her to leave, but she wouldn’t until she gave her offering!! See, to her, it didn’t matter what they thought; it mattered what God thought, and it mattered that He knew she loved, trusted, and obeyed Him!!

God loves a cheerful giver, a humble heart, obedience, determination, and our commitment to Him, despite what the world around us is saying!! All those things spring forth out of a loving heart, and this woman’s heart was bursting with love for the Lord!! I had to ask myself, “Could I make that walk up there to the offering plate, or would I just hang back and say to myself that it didn’t matter what I gave??” I pray that we all can have the same love, strength, and perseverance this woman showed that day!!!

I love you all! God bless! And Glory to God!!!!
