Psalm 147:10-11 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 147:10-11

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of the warrior; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.

I think of all God’s creation, the heavens and the earth, and all the things in them. The beauty, the splendor, the awe. But it does not mention them here when speaking of what pleases Him or what He delights in. It makes no mention of them. Rather, it speaks of a surrendered heart and obedient faith that pleases Him!

To think that we, a fallen, sinful people, could be redeemed and brought to be children of God and then be pleasing in His sight is absolutely mind-blowing! I think of the many sins I’ve committed, and because of Christ, He doesn’t count one of them against me. He doesn’t hold me guilty for the many offenses I have committed but rather counts me clean because I’m covered by the blood of His Son! Thank You, Jesus!

That being true, why wouldn’t I want to fear and obey Him? To make my goal to honor and obey Him with everything I am? To put my hope in Him, the One who never lets me down or forsakes me? Perspective is everything, and remembering that by walking in our freedom humbly, reverently, and obediently, we can be the Lord’s delight and rest in Him! What an awesome truth, and one that as His people, we should try to live out daily!

Just imagine; you can put a smile on the LORD’s face by listening and obeying Him and doing what’s gonna be in your best interests anyway! It’s not like His commands drag us down but rather build us up in Him! If our hope is not in Him, then where is it? If we fear the world more than the Lord, then where will we end up? Jesus Christ came to set the captives free, but if the captives won’t leave the cell, what more is there to do?

Luke 4:18-19 - “The Spirit of the Lord is on me because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit who teaches us in the way we should go!
