Psalm 34 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 34:8

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Hi, my name is Stephen, and I was a slave to sin and addiction. I served these things for many years of my life. The chains around my feet were formed out of selfishness. The whip that drove me was pride. Fear was the walls I constructed around my prison, and addiction was the forced labor I chose to endure. I hated the slave driver that put me there and vowed to find him and end all this torment, pain, and bondage.

I searched and searched, and finally, I found him. He wasn’t who I thought he would be and wasn’t anything that I thought he was. He was just a scared little boy with a ton of insecurities, a boy who just wanted to fit into all the wrong places and spurn the right ones. A scared little boy in need of a Savior, and that scared little slave driver was me! I cracked the whip. I put the chains on. I stayed bound up in fear and addiction.

It wasn’t until I met the One whose love lights up the darkness, who took me by the hand and said, “It’s okay, you’re free, you’re mine, you’re forgiven, and will be with Me forever!” Thank You, King Jesus!!! What a day it was that day I walked out of slavery and into freedom. Who would have thought that freedom would have been found in surrender?

Jesus is waiting to set you free as well. He doesn’t require anything more than your surrender and acceptance of Him as your Savior. Give Him your heart and your sins, and let Him lead you into His rest. Please don’t just take my word for it, but try it for yourself. The Lord tells you to try it before you buy it, and once you get a taste of His freedom, you won’t want to ever give it back!

I love you all, God bless and Glory, Honor, and Praise to My Papa, My King, and My Comforter!!!

Psalm 34:8

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

This is the ultimate “try it before you buy it”! Our God is so confident in His goodness and faithfulness that He says to come, taste and see, and after that, there will be a blessing for all who run to Him. It’s amazing to me that our God does this for us; He understands us and our weaknesses, so He allows us to have a glimpse, or a taste if you will, of who He is and then calls us to come and find rest and refuge in Him! But where do we go from there? The answer is found in

1 Peter 2:2,3- Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

After we taste and see, we are to continue to partake in His perfect spiritual milk so that we may grow up in our faith! We are not to stay on the bottle forever but in every way grow to be more and more like Christ. Each of us is given the opportunity to taste and see, but what will we do with said opportunity? Will we continue to lay about in a dirty spiritual diaper, or will we take what He is giving us and grow up in Him? Brothers and sisters, God has given us everything we need to live a Godly life in Him, but we must embrace this truth and walk it out.

We do not do this on our own but through the power and person of the Holy Spirit. He equips and enables us to live this by the standards of God and for the glory of God! So let us come to Him, taste and see just how good He is, and then grow into men and women of faith Christ died to save!

Galatians 5:16- So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

2 Peter 1:3- His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.

God bless! I love you all, but His love meets our every need! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
