Hebrews 11:21 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Hebrews 11:21

By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

Is our faith determined by our circumstances? This morning, I was in Hebrews chapter 11, which has been referred to the Hall of Faith! It has several different faith giants in it and how they had faith in the Lord above all else! Faith in Who He is not in what was going on around them!

It’s easy to have faith when things are going well or when we see the fruits of it, but do we have the same faith when the answer may be far off or unseen? “By faith” is a phrase used several times in this chapter and is immediately followed by an action. Faith is an action word; it doesn’t really talk about them proclaiming their faith verbally as much as through their actions, and I wonder if we are still a people that do this? Do we say we have faith but live a life of fear?

Jacob knew that he was about to die and that slavery was coming, yet he worshipped the Lord? He spent his last strength to lean on his staff and give praise where praise was due! He had faith that the Lord is good and He is God and that His promises were faithful and true! We serve that same God today! Faith isn’t determined by your surroundings or circumstances but rather is the confidence and security that you have in every circumstance that surrounds you!

Ok, one last thing that the Holy Spirit showed me this morning: a staff is made of wood, and since he was dying, he had to lean or hang on it and praised God while doing it! Do you know who else praised God while dying hanging on a piece of wood? That’s right, Jesus Christ, and He is everywhere and in everything! Thank You, Jesus!

James 2:18 - But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

God bless! I love you all!!!! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to God Almighty, Jesus Christ our King, and the Comforter the Holy Spirit!
