Jeremiah 31:26 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Jeremiah 31:26

At this, I awoke and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me.

This verse caught me off guard this morning, and had the Holy Spirit not revealed the meaning to me, I might still be lost! Jeremiah has a dream about the exiles returning from captivity and how they won’t be left there forever. But in this dream, he uses phrases like, “it will be a time of trouble for Jacob” and “I will not completely destroy you,” and it talks about “ the fierce anger of the Lord”! Not exactly pleasant phrases if you ask me.

Deliverance is pleasant, but there is a lot of destruction that goes into it beforehand! So, how could this be a pleasant dream? And then the Holy Spirit showed me that this isn’t just about the exiles returning from Babylon, but more importantly, it is about Jesus returning exiles back to His Father!

Jeremiah’s sleep was pleasant because he saw that not only were his people gonna come back from exile to their homeland, but Jesus was going to make a way to bring all the exiles (me and you) home! Jeremiah had peace because He saw Christ in his dream, and where Christ is, there will be peace because He is the Prince of Peace! His peace is not fleeting. It does not waver or shift like a shadow but is steady, strong, and firm! Jesus brought Kingdom peace for His Kingdom's people. The question is, are you a citizen?

John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.”

God bless! I love you all, but He loves you more! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Creator of Heaven and earth, His Risen Son who paid it all, and the Holy Spirit who fills these jars of clay with an eternal treasure!
