Psalm 73:25 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 73:15-17

If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children. When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.

Asaph had a struggle, a problem he faced that he couldn't make sense of, and that problem was the perceived success and growth of the wicked people around him. In the verses prior to this, he speaks of how the wicked are thriving, going about in their sin with little to no consequences, and how it almost caused him to fall from the righteous path. This misperception of their path almost enticed him to walk down it himself. But God, rich in mercy, revealed to him the truth.

These verses speak of our deep need for God's revelation and how it must trump our own understanding. In Asaph's eyes, the wicked path looked pleasing and full until God revealed the end result and the ultimate price for rebellion, eternal separation from the God who created us!

These verses also speak to God's mercy, for He is not unaware of the evil that we follow or the sins we commit but rather is patient, wishing none shall perish. It's not that He isn't paying attention but rather knows the price it will cost us to not repent and wants to give us more time.

Our God is a just God, righteous and holy, but at the same time, He is loving and merciful. We, like Asaph, must seek God and His divine revelation or be in danger of falling victim to our own understanding. How many things have made little to no sense until God showed you the bigger picture? We have to remember that though God has blessed people with wisdom, He is the Source and Author of it, and the source can never be surpassed or supplied by the reservoir but only the other way around. We draw from Him. He doesn't draw from us! Thank You, LORD, for supplying Your people with Your divine revelation that keeps us from the pitfall of our own understanding!

Proverbs 3:5,6- Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 28:26- Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

God bless! I love you all, but His love leads the way! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Psalm 73:25

Who have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

What are your heart's desires? I believe that you can tell a lot about your relationship with the Lord by what drives you and what your desires are. Throughout my walk with the Lord, I have desired many things. Sometimes, they are righteous, and sometimes, they are selfish. It’s been an uphill battle, but thankfully and mercifully, the Lord has brought me into a place where I can say that the things I desire are from Him! If it isn’t from Him, then I don’t want it! And this isn’t because of me at all but only because of the power of His Spirit living in me!

This doesn’t mean that I don’t have prideful thoughts or selfish motives at times, but what it does mean is that what I truly chase after and want in my life comes from Him! I’m not looking for His presents but His Presence, and as much of it as I can handle! Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. It took Him softening my heart and teaching me daily through the Holy Spirit! There have been times in my walk when a conviction has been the biggest catalyst for change, and I’m thankful for it!

The Holy Spirit is not magical or a genie that you rub a lamp and get three wishes, but if you truly humble yourself and honestly ask Him to search your heart and remove everything that isn’t from Him and doesn’t line up with His Word, then hang on because your mind will be blown! He desires to take us deeper, but He isn’t going to force us! Ask Him to search your deepest parts, to empty you of the world, and to fill you with His Spirit today!

Romans 8:14 - For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise as long as I have breath to Papa God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit!
