Amos 4:13 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Amos 4:13

He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals His thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the LORD God Almighty is his name.

How big our God is! How great His power! How awesome and mighty He is! How He thinks of us!

These are just a couple of thoughts I had about this verse. There are 5 things listed in this verse, 4 of which seem to go together, proclaiming His awesomeness and power, but then you have the 5th one right in the middle of them, which isn’t quite like the others. But it’s a beautiful picture of His loving heart! To me, this verse is saying: “I am all these things, yet I care to know you and be known by you!”

Our God is saying: “I’m bigger than you can even fathom, yet I want to be in covenant with you and commune with you daily.” RELATIONSHIP!!! He desires us to know His thoughts, His truth, His will, and His Word! He has given us such an amazing position in His family and His heart! Who are we that we get to be in the Lord’s inner circle? Who are we that the LORD God Almighty would share His thoughts with us? Thank You, Jesus, for bringing us into the family and allowing us to be bestowed with such a blessing!

This verse also tells me how important it is to listen to Him and what He tells us. He equates it or puts it in the same category as these other things. Things that no human could ever do or truly fathom. We can see the sunrise, but we can’t truly explain to you the inner workings of it. We may feel the wind blow, but we can’t tell you where it came from. We have limited knowledge, but He is all knowledge, wisdom, and truth! Thankfully and gratefully, He doesn’t call us to lean into ourselves but into Him! The unmovable Rock of our Salvation!

Proverbs 3:5,6 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
