Jeremiah 37:21 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Jeremiah 37:21

King Zedekiah then gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the courtyard of the guard and given a loaf of bread from the street of the bakers each day until all the bread in the city was gone. So, Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.

The Lord’s Presence, His provision, and His protection were all provided for Jeremiah when he was in prison! I love how, from the human perspective, the story of Jeremiah being imprisoned doesn’t look like a victory, but from God’s point of view, it most certainly was! See, many people wanted to kill Jeremiah, and instead of leaving him out there to fend for himself, the Lord put him somewhere safe and even fed him! In a time when the city had been and would be under siege, food would begin to get scarce, but God makes sure His servant is fed daily!

If the food and protection weren’t enough, the word of the Lord came to Him there as well! The Lord is showing and teaching us that despite what it may look like, He is more than willing and able to do more than we could ever ask or imagine! This earthy king thinks he has Jeremiah right where he wants him, but the problem with that is the King of the world is always in control. Thank You, Lord!

I see my story a lot in this. I was sent to prison, and people probably viewed that as a punishment, but as I grew in Him, He showed me that He was protecting me from myself, providing me with a safe place to grow in Him and that His Presence was not bound to a church house! The Lord took what should have been the bleakest time of my life and made it the brightest. Not because I deserved it or earned it but because He is Sovereign, He is love, He is God Almighty, and He is waiting for you!

Just because the world calls it a punishment doesn’t mean that God won’t call it a blessing! Praise His Holy Name!

Isaiah 55:8 - “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.

1 John 4:15,16 - If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so, we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit, Who we can fellowship with daily!
