Zechariah 1:12,13 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Zechariah 1:12,13

Then the angel of the LORD said, “LORD Almighty, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and from the towns of Judah, which you have been angry with these seventy years?” So, the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.

Are we being honest and open with the Lord or just saying what we think He wants to hear? We see the angel here asking the Lord a question, a question that he probably already knew the answer to because God had already given the revelation to Jeremiah and other prophets about the length of the Exile and the coming redemption. So, if the revelation had been given to man already, then I have to believe those in the Heavenly realms would know also. So, why does he ask?

I believe it’s because his heart is heavy, and he needs some comfort, and no one can comfort us like the One who created us! The LORD doesn’t rebuke or chastise the angel but rather speaks kind and comforting words! What a beautiful picture of our God’s love. He doesn’t get mad that the angel asks the question but gets busy bringing healing to his heart. But do we know this about our God? Do we know that we can, or better yet, that we should come to Him with any and everything?

How we view God doesn’t change Him, but it does change how we approach Him. Do we know Him personally or just from what people tell us about Him? If you don’t know Him personally, I encourage you to start asking the Lord to reveal Himself and who He is through His Word, His Spirit, and through any other route He chooses!

Jeremiah 33:2,3 - “This is what the LORD says, He who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: Call to me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’”

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
