1 Samuel 13 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Samuel 13:13,14

“How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you. Had you kept it, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom must end, for the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart. The LORD has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the LORD’s command.”

We see here in these verses that the LORD had already made up His mind about Saul and picked out David to replace him. But the thought the Holy Spirit brought to mind this morning was this: where was David when all this happened? Where was he when the LORD had chosen him and changed his life? The answer? He was still in the field with the sheep, more than likely unaware that the LORD had seen his heart and chosen him to be king of Israel. God had set the wheels in motion before David ever saw the fruit of God’s decision.

Our God is moving even when we can’t see it! Many times, in my life the Lord has been preparing the way long before my foot ever touches the path. This is a beautiful reminder for those of us who are waiting on the Lord and maybe feel a bit discouraged. Don’t give up hope! Don’t let go! Keep pressing on, the way David pressed on day after day with the sheep until that one day when Samuel showed up and his whole life changed!

Remember, God sees the end from the beginning; He is preparing you for every pitfall, hurdle, and trap that lay ahead of you, and He is making a way where there is no way!

Isaiah 46:10- I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’

Philippians 3:14- I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

God bless! I love you all, but His love strengthens us for the journey! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
