Exodus 27 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Exodus 27:20,21

“Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. In the tent of meeting, outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the LORD from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance among the Israelites for the generations to come.”

God commands the Israelites to bring clear oil so that the lamps may be kept burning before the LORD and shine their light into the darkness. I love how our God gives us a command and then fulfills it on a much bigger and more powerful scale!

Oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit, who is given us through Christ. So now we are the lamps filled with His oil (Holy Spirit) that burn before Him and shine His light into the darkness! Physical oil lamps can’t burn without oil, and neither can our spiritual ones. The spiritual flames inside of us will die out unless we are continually being filled with the right stuff. Now it’s not our job to fill our own lamps, but it is our job to put ourselves into position to be filled. We do that through reading and obeying His Word, worship, service, fasting, praying, daily quiet time, and tithing, just to name a few.

The oil we desire and need is from above, not below, and since we’re below and not above, only the One who is above all, before all, and in all, can fill us all the way up! I encourage you today to reflect on what you are being filled with and who is filling you, and if it’s not the One that created you, then today's a great day to change that!

Colossians 1:15-17- Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him, God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him. He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together.

God bless! I love you all, but His love conquers all! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
