Genesis 44:33,34
“Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come on my father.”
The entire Bible points to Christ, and here we see the heart of Christ on display in his ancestor thousands of years before He came to earth! This is Judah, whose tribe held both the lineage of King David and the earthly line of Jesus. We see him make this statement regarding his brother, who had been found guilty of having stolen a silver cup and thus becoming a slave to Joseph for the rest of his life. But what does Judah do? He offers himself as a substitute for his brothers' sin and punishment! It’s a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross!
It’s so encouraging to me that the whole Bible points to God’s redemption plan and that it wasn’t an afterthought but a precise plan from the beginning. Think about how powerful and scary a statement this would be to make for Judah. He is fairly well off, has his own life and children, could very easily say, “Oh well, not my problem,” and yet he does what Christ would do and offers himself up as a substitute!
As beautiful as this is of Judah, it’s nowhere near as beautiful or as powerful as what Christ did for us! He is the perfect and righteous Living Son of God, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Alpha and the Omega, and He took the place of wretched sinners like you and me! Thank You, Jesus, for saving someone like me and letting my life be a testament to Your love, kindness, mercy, grace, patience, and power!
1 Timothy 1:15-17- Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason, I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
God bless! I love you all, but His love bore our sins and shame! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
