Genesis 47 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Genesis 47:13

There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine.

Genesis 47:27- Now, the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.

Only 14 verses separate these two verses, yet the contrast is much larger than that! In the first verse, we see the pagan world around them crumbling, wasting away. But what does it say happens to God’s people in the midst of such a great famine? That they not only survived but thrived! They weren’t affected the way the unbelieving world around them was affected but were completely provided for by their Father in Heaven!

My friends, this same God who provided them in their famine will provide for us in ours today! It doesn’t say it was easy for them or that it didn’t cost them some things, but it does say that they grew as the world around them wasted away! This is especially good news for us today.

We see this world around us getting worse by the day, with no clear resolution in sight. Yet, if we belong to God, then we shouldn’t fear. Our hope isn’t in this world but in Jesus! The same way He provided and grew the Israelites in the face of adversity and famine is what He will do for us today! It may not be easy, it may not be popular, and it may not feel the best, but we can rest assured that the God who gave His only Son to save us isn’t going to leave us in these times of hardship. He was faithful, He is faithful, and He will always be faithful!

Hebrews 13:8- Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

2 Timothy 2:13- If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is.

2 Thessalonians 3:3- But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is faithful! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
