Numbers 5 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Numbers 5:27,28

If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell, and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. If, however, the woman has not made herself impure but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

This was the test the LORD gave Moses to give to the Israelites that would prove whether a wife had been faithful to her husband or not. When I read this, I thought something like this: could Christ’s Bride pass the test? If we were made to drink the bitter water that causes a curse, would we pass the test? Are we a faithful bride or a faithless one? Are we devoted to one husband, Jesus Christ, or promiscuous with many different things?

The truth is, we all have, at one time or another, been unfaithful to Christ. Whether it be with our quiet time with Him, our obedience to His commands, or how we love on one another, or numerous other ways. We all fall short of the glory of God, and I’m so thankful that He knows that and loves us anyway! He doesn’t love the sin in us but loves the sin out of us! What a beautiful truth about our God! The unfaithful bride deserved and would receive the curse, but because of Christ, that curse has been lifted. But if we remain unfaithful and refuse to repent and change our ways, what is left but the curse that He so deeply and desperately wants to save us from!

Hebrews 6:4-6- For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.

God bless! I love you all, but His love sets the captives free! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
