1 Kings 8 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Kings 8:17-19

“My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. But the LORD said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’”

David’s heart was set on honoring the Lord; what about ours? Are the intentions of our hearts to serve and honor our God or ourselves? Intent matters! Although David wasn’t allowed to build the Temple, God still commended and acknowledged him for wanting to build it. Does He feel the same way about us? What lies in our hearts, the desire to build up our Father’s Kingdom or establish a flawed one of our own? We have been saved and called to serve in His Kingdom and to share His Good News. He has laid the foundation, He has paid the price, He has called us out of darkness, but we have to walk in it.

David’s faith and love for the Lord directly affected those around him and is evident in the beginning of Solomon’s life. David wasn’t a perfect man but he was a repentant one, and he was a God-chaser. He ran after God with all his heart, despite his many flaws and sins. Are we God-chasers? This world runs after many things that will leave them broken, lonely, empty, and in ruins, but we must not chase the faulty things of this world but rather the Perfect One that died for it. We know that there is hope, and His Name is Jesus. So, today, let’s run after God with reckless abandon and fill our hearts with things that will please and glorify the God who gave us everything!

1 Corinthians 10:31- Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

1 Kings 8:54- When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the LORD, he rose from before the altar of the LORD, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.

God bless! I love you all, but His love fills all our voids! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
