1 Chronicles 22 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Chronicles 22:5

David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.

How do we handle it when God says no? David wanted to build a house for the LORD, but God said no because of all the blood he had shed. So how does David respond to his No from God? With a tantrum or in defiance, throwing his hands up and saying, “Fine, then You figure it out?” Did he set the one who would build it up to fail? Absolutely not! He did the exact opposite; he humbly and reverently went to work collecting the materials and preparing the way for Solomon to succeed! This speaks of David’s loving devotion to God, and I believe it is another reason he is called a man after God’s own heart.

To David, it didn’t matter who built it but that it got built, and all for God’s glory! God’s “no” to David reveals David’s sincere heart towards the LORD, and it is beautiful! How we handle God’s “no’s” in our life says a lot about who’s kingdom we are building. If we are serving God and trying to build His Kingdom, then His “no” is an opportunity to humble ourselves and worship Him with our response, all the while trusting Him and all that He is! But if we are building our own kingdom, then the “no” is just a roadblock or an obstacle that we don’t have time for and one that we will stumble over and fall flat on our faces.

No one likes to be told no, but when we honor Him even in the “no,” we become more like Christ and less like this world! Jesus honored the Father even when the “no” meant His life! Thank You, Jesus!

Luke 22:42,43- “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him.

God bless! I love you all, but His love knows no limits! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
