2 Kings 23:24,25
Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfill the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the LORD. Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the LORD as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
When confronted with the truth, Josiah responded accordingly and acted decisively. When Hilkiah found the Book of the Law and read it to Josiah, he tore his clothes outwardly and his heart inwardly. He didn’t make excuses for himself or the people but got busy repenting. He didn’t debate which parts of the Law were to be followed but embraced the entirety of it and received it as God’s truth. He didn’t just say I’m sorry but proved it in his actions here in this chapter. When confronted with the sin in the land, he turned fast and hard from it and toward the truth, and we must do the same thing.
This entire chapter is filled with Josiah’s repentance in action. He didn’t just say that things were evil or sin and then go about his day but put his faith into action and removed them from his life and the lives of those around him. Could we be a people like that? A people who stands for truth regardless of the social, financial, professional, and personal loss that may come with it? Josiah took a stand for what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and the LORD had mercy on him.
If we, too, stand on the truth of God’s Word, obeying and surrendering to it completely, then we can expect two things. The first is persecutions from this world, and the second is mercy from our God. I don’t know about you, but God’s mercy far outweighs what this world can throw at us, so let’s throw ourselves at His feet in humble adoration and fully obey the entire Word of God!
Psalm 119:33-38- Teach me, LORD, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Give me understanding so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Fulfill your promise to your servant so that you may be feared.
We can pray the verse above with all confidence that He will hear it and answer it! God bless! I love you all, but His love is mightier than the grave! Glory, honor and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
