1 Chronicles 28 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

1 Chronicles 28:19,20

“All this,” David said, “I have in writing as a result of the LORD’s hand on me, and He enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.” David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.”

God had provided everything needed to build His temple. He had given them the people to help, the materials to build with, the plans to build from, and His blessing to do the work, yet David still feels the need to reassure Solomon and encourage him to press on. But why? I believe that part of it is because even if we know God’s will and plan for our lives, that doesn’t necessarily make it any easier to walk it out.

Look at Christ and the cross. He knew the plan, the purpose and is in closest relationship with the Father, yet it wasn’t an easy path to walk down or see through. He had to fight to get there and finish what He started. Instead of turning away from the cross, He turned to the Father, and His Father sent an angel to strengthen Him! If the Son of God experienced this, how much more the adopted children?

I also believe that David knows there will be times Solomon will want to quit or give up. He knows that there will be times when the task just seems too big or too far away to finish. But David also knows that if Solomon stays focused on God, then everything else will fall into place. That if Solomon focuses upon God and all that He is, then all that Solomon isn’t won’t stop him from pushing through and finishing this House for the LORD!

We see David point Solomon to the LORD, calling him to a life of faith and obedience regardless of what the future may or may not hold. We see Christ firmly set His heart and mind on things above, not things below, as He boldly marched towards Calvary! We have been given everything we need to live a Godly life in Him, but the question becomes, will we walk it out in faith or crumble in doubt and fear?

2 Peter 1:2-4- May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

God bless! I love you all, but His love paid it all! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
