2 Chronicles 18 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

2 Chronicles 18:31,32

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “This is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him, for when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him.

How mightily merciful our God is! Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah; he sought the LORD and, for the most part, did what was right most of his life. But he did have one major sin the Bible tells us about, and that was aligning himself with the wicked king Ahab. On one occasion, Jehoshaphat goes to visit Ahab, and Ahab gets him to go into battle with him; that’s where these powerful verses are found.

You see, Jehoshaphat was in the middle of a battle he didn’t belong in, having aligned himself with an evil man fighting alongside one who hates the LORD and wants nothing to do with Him. Yet we see our gracious and merciful Father’s response to Jehoshaphat’s cry for help! He didn’t save him or us because we deserved it but because it’s Who He is! Thank You, Lord!

How many times has our God saved us from similar battles? How many times have we deserved to be abandoned, and yet He rescues us? How great is our God! One battle that sticks out in my life is my battle with drugs and alcohol. I had aligned myself with the enemy and found myself in the middle of a battle God never intended me to fight. One that I chose to engage in, not knowing just how much it would cost. But God! He saved me that day just as He saved Jehoshaphat, and He can and will do the same for you.

We may only catch a glimpse of His efforts to save us, but we can rest assured that He delivers us from more things than we know and that His mercy and power far outweigh the battles we may face in this life!

2 Chronicles 20:15- He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’”

2 Timothy 1:9,10- He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is victory! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
