Psalm 68 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 68:5,6

A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families. He leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Psalm 68:19,20- Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.

Run to Him today, for this is the heart of the God waiting to receive you! He is a God of might and power, a God of fairness and truth, a God of justice and righteousness, a God of mercy and grace, a God of forgiveness and peace. He is the One true Living God, and He is waiting on you!

How blessed we are that He daily bears our burdens. That each and every day, we can run to Him and know He is willing to help us and waiting to walk with us. Our God is not a man that He should change His mind, nor is He human that a bribe could sway His love, but He is eternally righteous, perfect, holy, and loving. More consistent than the air we breathe and more sturdy than the ground we walk on. He is the Lord God Almighty, and He holds our victory in His hands. He desires to be your Defender. He longs to be your Redeemer. He is excited to receive your repentance and give you a new name in His family!

False religions and their gods are set up in such a way that you must earn your way to them. A constant grind in futility. Always working and never achieving anything. Yet our God knew that we could never get to Him, so He came to us! None of us could step into Heaven unless God first stepped down. He had to make the way, and the Way is Jesus Christ! Even Enoch and Elijah didn’t earn or make their way into Heaven, but God came down to get them.

God is awesome and worthy of all praise. With each breath we have, let us sing praises, and with each choice we make, let us worship Him! We are beyond unworthy of Him, and yet He says you and I were worth it! Don’t believe me? Just look at the cross and remember that it wasn’t for His salvation but ours! Thank You, Jesus!

Romans 5:17,18- For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.

God bless! I love you all, but His love paid it all! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Psalm 68:6

God sets the lonely in families, He leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Are any of us battling the beast of loneliness today? If so, run to the LORD who freely and generously puts the lonely in families. I understand this verse to be two-fold, meaning that God puts us both in physical and spiritual families. Sometimes, when we come to Christ, we come alone. Our family and friends don’t follow, nor do they understand. They may think we have lost it or are brainwashed, and want nothing to do with us. While this is hard and devastating, it doesn’t mean that you will live the rest of your life without people by your side, for our God created us to be in community – with Him and each other. God knows we need that physical connection with other believers and will bring you a family full of them!

On the spiritual side of this, He takes us out of the dominion of darkness and places us in His family and Kingdom. There are people who are constantly surrounded by other people and yet still feel all alone; how can this be? It is this way because they are missing out on the spiritual aspect of this verse. They have human connection and family but not a spiritual one; we all know that the physical is important, but the spiritual supersedes it. They, we, all of us, have a deep need to be in God’s family, whether we realize it or not. And the only way into the family is through Jesus Christ! Praise God for the Way He has given us!

So we see that our God desires to place us in both a physical and spiritual family forever. So today, if you’re lonely, cry out to God and pray this verse back to Him. But I warn you; be ready and remember that every family dynamic is different, and most of the time, it’s not easy. Being in a family takes hard work and sacrifice, but remember the One who worked hard and sacrificed that we may become the children of God!

John 1:11-13- He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Colossians 1:13,14- For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

God bless! I love you all, but His love will place you right where you need to be! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Psalm 68:19

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.

Let us worship Him with hearts overflowing with thanksgiving, minds steadfast upon His loving kindness and lives filled with humble obedience! Our God is amazing. There is no doubt about that. As if the cross wasn't enough, He daily bears our burdens. The question isn't if He will bear them but are we taking them to Him? No matter the size of the burden, we have to take them to our God. He cares about the crisis in our life as much as the minor inconveniences. Let us never be deceived into thinking that something is too small to take to God. That is just the enemy trying to keep you and me out of the Presence of God and all that He is.

It's easy to be open and real with God when we're facing a life-altering situation, but how about when it's something we want, not need? What about when that twinge of envy or fear rises up in us? Will we take it to Him with the same honesty and fervor we do when we're desperate? We can't compartmentalize our faith. We can't section off our hearts and say, "God, you can have this and this, but I will hold onto this and that." My friends, that is a recipe for disaster and one that will cost us in the long run. Those little things we ignore and leave unchecked eventually rise up to be mountains too high for us to climb, and we end up just sitting at the base of it, wondering how we got there. But glory to God! He has given us everything we need in Him to not only live this life but to be conquerors in Christ! His door is open, His ear attentive, His heart full and available, and His hand eager to lead us through it all! Thank You, Lord!

Isaiah 41:11-14- "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you," declares the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."

God bless! I love you all, but His love gives us victory! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
