Praying the Beatitudes by Lindsey Whyde

Praying the Beatitudes

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Lord, I come to you with nothing. I’m bankrupt. There is nothing but evil inside of me. No matter how I try to be good, to do good, I blow it.

"Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted."

I regret my sins. I want to turn away. I mourn over all that I have done against You and my loved ones. I’ve surrendered my life to You, God. All that I have is from You. I deserve nothing, but You give everything to me! You give me the keys to Your kingdom! You comfort me with forgiveness! These are things impossible to achieve on my own. How can I thank You?!

"Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth."

Help me and walk with me as I learn to be like You, as I learn to be angry without sin, turn the other cheek. Fill me with Your ability of self-control. I don’t want to miss out on eternity with You!

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled."

You fill me and satisfy all my desires for righteousness. You don’t make me figure out this upside-down counter-cultural lifestyle by myself. Thank You for being with me every step of the way!

"Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God."

Help me to give mercy and peace as freely as I have received. I want to be known as Your daughter. I want to be a reflection of You. How could I keep mercy and peace to myself? I need to share it!

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Prepare me for the persecution that will come my way. The world hates You, and I know living for You isn’t without cost. I’m willing to endure for Your sake. You are worth it! I will praise Your name forever. Thank You for the joy, peace, and happiness that I experience when the world fails me. Your Word is timeless truth.
