Job 1 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Job 1:1

In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.

Job 22:4,5- "Is it for your piety that He rebukes you and brings charges against you? Is not your wickedness great? Are not your sins endless?”

What a sharp contrast we see in these verses. One speaks of how God describes Job, and the other is how his "friend" described him. Who defines us, God or the world around us? Job was suffering greatly, but it was not for his sin that he was suffering, as some would suggest. It was a scheme of the enemy to try and tear the Lord's servant down.

Yet those closest to Job did not accept this idea or notion but rather decided to find fault with him and try to tell him who he was and who he must be to be suffering this way. My friends, this is a tactic of the enemy. Our enemy will tell us that everything bad that happens to us is either because God is mad at us, He doesn't love us, we're not good enough, or some other lie to distract us from the truth of God's Word and character.

What a statement the Bible makes about Job's character and relationship with the Lord, and yet when calamity strikes, the enemy attacks. This shows us that no matter how close we are to the Lord, we are not exempt from attacks or immune to their effects. So, we must stay grounded in the Word, prayer, and Spirit if we want to survive them and continue down a path of righteousness with our King!

So, what lie has the enemy told you today about who you are or who God is? I encourage you to turn to the eternal, unchanging, and unwavering Word of God for the truth! It is filled with promises from our Father, and His Word is more permanent than the air we breathe!

Luke 1:37- “For no word from God will ever fail."

Isaiah 55:10,11- As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

God bless! I love you all, but His love covers the pages of the Bible and our sins! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
