John 7 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

John 7:37-39

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." By this, He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Up to that time, the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Do we know that Jesus is still standing and proclaiming this truth and offering this gift today? His offer of new life in Him and the filling of the Holy Spirit are just as available today as hat day He offered it so long ago. Our God does not change. He does not promise and not fulfill or decree and not carry out. He is light, and there is no deceit or darkness in Him, only a glorious, eternal, and powerful Light that will shine forevermore.

I also love how Jesus uses Scripture to teach truth and to reveal who He is. He is setting the example for us. If we want to know Him more, then we need to read the written word about the Living Word! The more time we spend with the word, the more the Word will dwell in us and us in Him. Of course, this is predicated upon our obedience to the word, but it all starts with spending time in it. How can we expect to obey the Lord when we don't know what He is requiring? We must diligently read and apply the Scriptures to our lives to grow in Him.

And, of course, we need the Holy Spirit to make this all possible! Jesus references Him here and speaks of Him as a river of living water flowing from within! What a beautiful picture of who the Holy Spirit is! Rivers are powerful, life-giving, uncontrollable forces, God-given, and able to shape the hardest stone given the right amount of time! Thank You, Lord, for providing us with a way home and your Spirit to lead the way!

Isaiah 55:1-3- "Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. "Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love shines through even in the darkest of nights! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
