Luke 24 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Luke 24:5-9

In their fright, the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you, while He was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified, and on the third day be raised again.' "Then they remembered His words. When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.

These women at Christ's empty tomb are distraught, confused, afraid, and overwhelmed. They probably have a million different feelings, emotions, and thoughts racing through their mind. Yet the angel simply reminds them of Christ's words, and in an instant, they remember and are able to collect themselves and go report the greatest news ever to those who would listen!

This shows us just how powerful God's Word is and how it can take us from the brink of chaos to peace and comfort in Him! The angel did not teach them theologically or with long and lengthy discourses but rather simply, powerfully, and profoundly quoted Christ's own words to settle them, calm them, and equip them to take the news to the others.

Do we use His words the same way? If the angel quoted Scripture, and if Christ quoted Scripture, then how much more do we need to be filled with it and quote each and every day? We severely limit ourselves and our faith by loosely reading, applying, and speaking the word of God in, on, and over our lives. If the Body of Christ would give itself over to the Scriptures the way we do other things, imagine how much power the Church would have and how much glory God would get!

Scripture isn't the only thing we need in our daily walk with the Lord, but it is certainly foundational and of the utmost importance. God's Word teaches us, trains us, and equips us for this life in Him. If it wasn't that important, or if He didn't want us to have it, then why did He give it to us through the power of the Holy Spirit! And then give us that same Spirit to help us understand!? Ask Him today to help you read His Word and for Him to reveal its truth!

2 Timothy 3:16,17- All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.

God bless! I love you all, but His love covers the pages from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever more to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
