Psalm 37 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Everyone wants the desires of their heart, but the Bible teaches us that blessing is reserved for those who delight in the LORD. Do you delight in Him? Delighting in the LORD isn't just worshipping Him on Sundays or giving a half-hearted hallelujah or amen to something you hear. But it is a deep desire for God and all that He is. To delight in God is to hunger and thirst for Him, His Word, His Presence, and even His correction. For even His correction isn't meant to destroy us but to deliver us and draw us closer to Him.

We can't truly delight in the LORD and live a life of open rebellion. Let me give an example of what I mean by" open rebellion": God's Word says that sex before marriage is a sin, but man's moral code says it's socially acceptable, and it's no big deal. If we follow man's moral code and refuse to follow God's perfect Word, then we are, in fact, living in open rebellion to God and shouldn't expect to receive the desires of our hearts. But if we reject the world's standards and adopt God's, then we can expect to receive all that He has promised.

Delighting in God is more than a feeling; it is a lifestyle, one built upon the Rock that is Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit. It is not a life of self-seeking but of self-sacrifice. Christ delighted in the LORD in every way, so to be more like Christ is to delight in Him more!

How awesome and merciful is our God to give us the blueprint for this! He wants to make sure we get it, so He lays it out plainly for us! So today, will we delight in all that He is and receive all that He has for us, or will we continue to ride the fence and be upset when we don't get what we want? The more I walk with Christ, the more the desires of my heart are changed to match His desires, and let me tell you, His desires are way better!

Isaiah 55:9- "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

2 Peter 3:18- But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

God bless! I love you all, but His love grants the desires of your heart! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
